so this is gonna be a super cliche rant on art.. just warning.
I have this pet peeve; it irritates the hell out of me when someone turns to me and says, "oh wow, you're so talented." or " art just comes naturally to you" or "yeah, well at least you have it all figured out, of course you're gonna be an artist" or my personal favorite: "oh, you have it easy, art isn't a hard program to study in college"
that seems like a really silly thing to get annoyed at, but each and every time, i stop those people mid sentence with this reply:
Art isn't about talent; you can be the most talented artist in the world, but if you don't work at it, that talent is worthless and wasted.
what most people fail to understand is that talent makes up about 10% of a person's ability to create art. the rest is hard work, and i'm sure most of you people on deviant art here can understand. Art isn't a destination, its a journey. i don't know about any of you, but i have spent countless hours watching speedpaint videos and art lectures on youtube, or sorting through hundreds of pictures on the internet just looking for that ONE picture reference that matches the lighting or anatomy that I'm looking for. i have spent hours and hours sketching, redrawing, and studying to get to where i am. i've pulled countless all nighters just like any other student, working my butt off to make deadlines for all of my classes.
basically what I'm trying to say is this: Art isn't easy. us artists work our butts off in the hopes that people like what we do, and it's difficult and stressful and it takes a lot of work. is it fun? most of the time, does it pay well? not always, is it satisfying? definitely. so to those of you who feel bad when someone says something ridiculous like "oh art is easy, thats not a real degree" just hold your head high and ignore them.
